"Jazz Scale Suggester System is a valuable musician's aid that takes your chord input and suggests a scale on which you can base your improvisations. With an import feature that lets you use Band-in-a-Box files, the easy-to-use interface allows you to enter up to 400 chords by using drop-down menu selections, specifying the note, type (major, minor, diminished, augmented, and dominant seventh), and any of 14 chord structure variations, as well as the key of the piece. The Suggester System then analyzes your entries and recommends some commonly used scales for your solos -- evaluating your entire jazz chord chart, not just single chords in isolation. With help documentation that includes a theory lesson as well as scale and chord diagrams, this program can provide valuable assistance to the jazz musician, though casual audiophiles without music-reading experience may have trouble orienting themselves." "I've been using BIAB since version 1.0 (and was among the first in lineto buy it !!) I've been playing sax about 23 years, and although my theoryis pretty good, I'm always looking for new perspectives on how to blow over changes. What I like in your program is when I find a common scale that fits across a pattern (maybe I'm just lazy ..) but I really like the leisure of concentrating on swing and melody instead of figuring out what chord/scale comes next. For the most part, I am still happy with the fundamental major and minors, and can figure out whether the tonality requires a Dorian or Mixolydian sound (so stating the Major key over ii, V, vi, IV works well for me.)"

"I use BIAB for all the tunes, print them, and then using JSSS write in the scales to play against the changes... What I like about your program is that it identifies the many key changes that occur in most tunes.... I almost always use major, minor and diminished scales even, for instance, to play dominant seventh scales preferring to use the relative major...Mike, if I had the information and wealth of instruction that is available now when I was young, my life may have taken a much different turn.Finding your piece of intellectual creation has opened up a new world of activity and joy for me and I thank you most, most sincerely.JSSS is the best kept secret in the world, Mike."
"Starting from the examples provided by the developer, a less experienced user can start fiddling around by specifying keys for the tune and watch the changes that ensue in the chart. Jazz Scale Suggester System does not replace a teacher but it could make for a good starting point for a jazz aficionado keen on learning more about improvisation." Softpedia, 4/5 STARS.
